Final Self-Reflection

This is the first time in my life that I have taken a class focused only on writing. This class has made me see how much more I need to learn in order to become a better writer and how important it is to be one. It has also shown me to not fear writing. At least not as much as I did before, as I learned that I could enjoy writing. I also learned how much I must improve grammatically and how important drafts and peer reviews are. All the assignments I took in this class furthered my development as a writer since they each increased in difficulty.

Before this class I would not write multiple drafts, nor would I take peer reviews seriously. But when I compared two papers in which one, I had not done these things and the other one that I had done them I realized how helpful they are. I also had a hard time with my organization on essays and with grammatical errors. These are things that I still struggle with now although there has been some improvement.

Our first assignment was a Cultural Identity Narrative and it was the first time that I had written a narrative. I did not want to write it but after I started reflecting on my identity and writing my thoughts down, I ended up enjoying it. The last essays were not as personal, so it was harder for me to enjoy them since I prefer writing about my own experiences. Something else that I learned was to not look at the required word count and to only try my best on explaining my argument. Since if I did this correctly, I would always pass the minimum word count.

The COVID-19 crisis made it harder for me to stay on track. But the weekly free-writes that we did, helped me a lot to put my thoughts together. Since we are in quarantine, I have more free time and I had many different thoughts that were hard to keep track of. But writing them down really helped me elaborate on them.

In conclusion, I realized that I can use writing to understand things better and that I should try to learn from every paper that I write. I also realized how important being a good writer is to succeed.
